For this most exquisite of cakes, I baked Isabel's favourite flavour, lemon poppyseed, in an elegant square shape. The beautiful duck-egg blue colouring is delicate and subtle, yet also very striking. A skilled needle worker and quilter by profession, I highlighted this in Isabel's cake with an intricate swirling pattern in white, covering the sides and just a little of the surface. The overall effect of this is stunning, but in an understated and modest manner, much like the lady herself! The light and wonderfully flavoured sponge proved to be great success at her special birthday party.
